Innovative Solutions to Overcome Inequality (ISTOI) was founded by Nawi Mabo, an advocate for inclusive growth with 19 years of experience advancing equity and opportunity across remote communities in Papua New Guinea (PNG). ISTOI is fiscally sponsored by Humanitarian Social Innovations, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ensuring transparency and accountability in all of our initiatives.
Based in Mount Hagen PNG, ISTOI is dedicated to empowering remote and underserved populations through access to electricity, internet, education, and entrepreneurship. Our mission is to bridge societal divides and create inclusive opportunities for women, children, and youth in areas where geography has long limited potential.
Our flagship initiative, the Bula Village Project, is building a Community Learning & Empowerment Hub for over 700 residents who currently live without electricity or reliable communication. This hub will provide solar power, internet connectivity, laptops, books, and training equipment, alongside tools for women-led businesses such as sewing machines.
By enabling children to study after sunset, supporting women’s economic independence, and connecting the community to the wider world, ISTOI is working to reduce inequality and create lasting change. We envision replicating this model across other remote villages in Papua New Guinea, ensuring that every community has the opportunity to thrive.
